Transcon
The TransCon Corridor hauls the consumer goods that we all use everyday. Over 66 million people live and work in the areas served by the TransCon accounting for $3.9 trillion in gross domestic product and over 28 million jobs. From T-shirts and TVs to clothes and cars this major route serves as a gateway for imports and exports for our nation’s consumers and businesses.
The TransCon features more intermodal facilities than any other corridor. There are 18 intermodal facilities along this premier corridor where freight moves between rail, truck, and ship without any handling of the cargo itself. This creates significant environmental, safety, and reliability advantages.
Impact
BNSF and its partners are building new tracks, creating grade separations, building
intermodal facilities and other major projects along the vast east-west TransCon
corridor. All of these projects are designed to create a more efficient freight
railway system in the U.S. to foster economic growth. These efficiency improvements
mean fewer trucks on the road, lower emissions and a healthier environment.
Development: Today
& Tomorrow
BNSF is investing significant dollars on TransCon maintenance,
new and improved facilities, double tracking and more. In addition, through public-private partnerships,
millions of dollars are being invested in new intermodal facilities, which
enable freight to keep moving seamlessly from one form of transportation to the
other and new lines to divert traffic and create more livable communities.
